Tales of Mithila

The Tales of Mithila collection brings to life the timeless stories of love, devotion, and divine union through the exquisite tradition of Madhubani art. Steeped in history, Madhubani paintings originated in the Mithila region of Bihar and were once crafted on the walls of newlywed rooms, blessing couples with harmony, love, and prosperity. Designed exclusively by Khoob, these paintings honour this age-old heritage while presenting it in a contemporary form for modern homes.

Each painting is made on handmade paper treated with a mixture of cow dung, neem juice, and Multani Mitti (Fuller’s Earth) to ensure durability, purity, and resistance to insects. This process is deeply symbolic, as cow dung is considered auspicious in Hindu culture. Natural pigments made from flowers and Gond (tree resin) give the paintings their vibrant hues, emphasising sustainability alongside tradition.

Every piece is crafted through the efforts of three skilled artisans: one sketches the design, another adds intricate linework using the Kachni (linework) technique, and the third fills the colours with the Bharni (filling) style. The collection narrates three iconic tales:

• When Krishna Met Radha: The eternal bond of divine love between Lord Krishna and Radha.

• When Shiva Met Parvati: The harmonious union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati as Ardhanarishvara.

• When Rama Met Sita: The sacred garland exchange of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita during their wedding.
